FAQ
Technical questions
I'm a complete novice. Can I still install it?
Yes, absolutely. The CALIFAKTUR solar modules are specifically designed so that even complete novices can successfully install them in their VW California T5, T6, T6.1 or T7.
We reduce complexity through these three core elements:
1. The illustrated step-by-step instructions:
Your package contains clear and very detailed assembly instructions. They guide you through the entire process with precise, illustrated steps, from preparation to the final commissioning of your solar system. We explain each step clearly and without unnecessary technical jargon.
On the page https://www.califaktur.de/pages/montage you will find several installation videos to give you a feel for it beforehand.
2. Plug-and-Play
All components (e.g., the metal sheets, flexible solar modules, and the MPPT charge controller) are optimally prepared and pre-assembled upon delivery. This means you can easily mount the module yourself without drilling or gluing.
3. Direct CALIFAKTUR Support
Should any unexpected questions arise during installation in your VW California Coast, Ocean, or Beach, our technical team is available by phone or email. Our support doesn't end with your purchase, but only when you are successfully camping off-grid.
Customer experience: Over 99% of our customers who performed the installation themselves confirm that the assembly went smoothly thanks to our instructions and the prepared kits.

I have a Camperunit CU display in the bus, will it still work?
Yes, the Camperunit CU still works.
For T6.1 with CU: To do this, the negative pole of the charge controller must not be connected to the battery, but to ground (body). The original ground point is under the battery. To do this, the battery must be completely removed. Alternatively, the screw on the battery holder can be used as a ground point.
For T5 & T6 with CU: For this, the negative pole of the charge controller should be connected directly to the battery pole of the supply battery, otherwise an error message will appear in the CU. Unfortunately, the positive charging current will then no longer be visible on the CU. However, this can be viewed at any time via the charge controller app.
I have a California Ocean, is it possible to connect the solar module to the 3rd battery in the cabinet?
Yes, it is possible to connect the solar module to the 3rd battery in the cabinet. This option is actually a good one, as routing the cable via the rear headlight is relatively easy. However, it is important to use a Battery Sense, as the charge controller cannot be placed directly next to the battery due to the limited space. This means that the temperature protection circuit cannot function optimally. Ultimately, however, it does not technically matter which variant you choose. In both cases, both supply batteries are charged.
I have mounted a roof rack in the C-rail. Is it still possible to mount a solar panel?
Yes, the 155Wp version can also be installed with the roof rack mounted. Please contact us beforehand if you want the exact position of the solar panel. Measured from the back - beginning of the aluminum C-rail. Width of the panel 70cm.
I have already installed a charge controller, can I use it?
We offer a complete package and thus ensure that all components are optimally coordinated. Therefore, the charge controller is included in every order
Does it make sense to operate it with a standard AGM battery? Do I have to make any adjustments to the charge controller?
Yes. It is sufficient to have standard AGM batteries installed. LiFePO4 batteries are not absolutely necessary. The standard settings of the charge controller are suitable for all battery types. To increase performance, appropriate presets for different battery types can be selected in the app under Settings -> Battery. This setting only needs to be made once and can be changed at any time.
Can the 155Wp variant be expanded if necessary?
No. Experience has shown that plug-in socket solutions are unfortunately always prone to failure. Therefore, all modules are hard-wired. A subsequent extension required the modules to be completely rewired.
Can I still go to the car wash?
Yes this is not a problem
Will the overall height of the vehicle be negatively affected?
No, the height of the vehicle remains unchanged because the solar module fits perfectly to the roof and therefore does not add bulk
Will my roof be protected against scratches? Is there ventilation behind it?
Yes, the roof is protected by high-quality cellular rubber, which ensures optimal ventilation of the solar panel.
Still questions?
We look forward to your message.
